Candles
For centuries,
candles have cast a light on man
and on his progress. While, there is very little known about the
origin of
candles it is often written that
the first
candles were developed by the
Ancient Egyptians who used rush lights, or torches, made by soaking
the core of reeds in melted tallow. Unlike a
candle,
rush lights had no wick. It is the Romans who are credited
with developing the wick candle, using it to aid travelers at dark,
and lighting homes and places of worship at night.
Candle Burning Safety
While our scented candles are very aromatic, when lighting
candles, you should always be responsible. When in doubt, put
it out! There are always warning labels on candles, but what
do they really mean?
Keep wick trimmed to 1/4 of an
inch and centered in the candle. Keeping the wick trimmed will
decrease smoking and soot of the candle. (Highly scented candles
will produce soot.) 1/4 of an inch is the optimal length to get a
perfect burn from your scented candle each and every time.
Occasionally a wick can drift off
center which can cause a candle to burn unevenly. This can lead to
dripping candles and can even crack a jar candle! Finger Nail
Clippers make great wick trimmers! They are easy to get down into
tall jars
